Headings
Remarks Jenny Goovaerts, younger sister of Henri Goovaerts, was pianist and founder of Muziekschool Goovaerts that eventually was incorporated into the municipal conservatory. She was a friend of the Maastricht pianist Alphonse Crolla and as a family friend she was regularly to be found at the Crolla's. According to a note written on the torn back of an envelope, she gave the portrait 'As a sign of great veneration and // friendship to Mr. and Mrs. // Alph. Crolla // Jenny Goovaerts // 15 November // 1929' The painting probably still has the original frame. There are only a few self portraits with black hat known. Possibly they all date from the same time: presumably 1903.
