| Remarks | This civic guard portrait was painted between 1912 and 1916 by Henri Jonas, Guillaume Eberhard and Rob Graafland on the basis of the preliminary study that Henri Goovaerts made just before his death. The study was almost completely copied on the final canvas. In addition Goovaerts' fondness for a background with a sunset sky above the city on the horizon, as we saw earlier in his' Charité '(1895) and his exhibition poster (1906), is honoured. |
